Brickwork Calculator

Enter the wall size, brick size and mortar joint. Openings such as doors and windows can be deducted.

Your result will appear here after you press Calculate.

How this calculator works

Wall volume = (length × height − openings) × thickness

Bricks = wall volume ÷ [(L + joint) × (B + joint) × (H + joint)], then × (1 + wastage ÷ 100)

Wet mortar = wall volume − bricks × (L × B × H)

Dry mortar = wet mortar × dry factor; cement = dry × 1 ÷ (1 + sand part); sand = dry × sand part ÷ (1 + sand part)

Assumptions and limits

  • Default brick size 190 × 90 × 90 mm and a 10 mm joint are common examples. Enter your actual brick size.
  • The dry-volume factor for mortar is 1.27 by default (editable). Cement is taken as 50 kg bags at 1440 kg/m³.
  • Plaster is not included. Use the Plastering Calculator for that.
